parson with five presentations at tekom conference 2015

Two talks, two tutorials, and a workshop. Five of our presentations were accepted for the annual tekom conference.

The tekom conference takes place in Stuttgart, Germany, from November 10 to 12, 2015. And these are our presentations (some of them are given in German):

Ulrike Parson and Karsten Schrempp (pantopix)

Frank Ralf (parson) and Constant Gordon (NXP Semiconductors)*
Always up to DITA – Streamlining the Documentation Process at NXP Semiconductors (joint talk)

Keeping the documentation in synch with your product development can be a daunting task. With printed manuals this is near to impossible, but modern electronic output formats allow the automatic creation of an updated version of the documentation whenever there is a change.

NXP Semiconductors has recently begun to switch from a document-based documentation process to a new DITA-based workflow with the aim to create a more robust, reliable, and faster documentation process. The presentation will give examples of integrating DITA-based documentation into the product life cycle.

Marion Knebel and Frank Ralf
Relax, just do it. DITA customization with RELAX NG (tutorial)

With DITA 1.3, the schema language RELAX NG (RNG) is becoming the normative grammar. RNG is simple and easy to learn, it is written in XML syntax, and it offers features that DTDs don't offer. So what is stopping us from using RNG? In this workshop, we will cover the basics of the RNG grammar, explain the differences between DTD and RNG and walk you through a topic specialization and customization. You will learn how the RNG definitions are organized: What are domains, entities, and modules? How do I remove unwanted elements? How do I add new elements? Bring a laptop to try it out yourself.

Katrin Mehl and Elisabeth Fischer
Informationen visualisieren. Lassen Sie Bilder sprechen! (workshop)

* Constant Gordon is Product Information Creation Manager at NXP Semiconductors. His focus is product information usability, consistency and legal requirements. Information creation, maintenance, and storage are focused on single-source content and multi-channel delivery.
