Soft Skills of a Technical Writer

by Uta Lange on January 11, 2018

What soft skills should technical writers have when they start their career? Linguistic and technical understanding is important in our profession. So are the soft skills - just like in any other job.

In her tekom blog article (in German), Jaqueline Probian presents five important soft skills for technical writers: Curiosity, communication skills, confidence, persuasiveness, and empathy.

We agree with Jaqueline and would only add "patience". Patience is one of our strengths. Or at least we need to show it, for example, when we wait for feedback. However, as we know, patience is not a trait of the young. But it can (mostly) be acquired over time.

Can you think of any other soft skills? Please tell us in the comment field.
