Newsletter spring 2026

Dear readers,

Spring is a time for new beginnings, clarity, and fresh perspectives, including in the field of technical communication. Many companies use this time to improve their processes and prepare for future requirements. One topic that is currently receiving particular attention is the Digital Product Passport (DPP).

parson newsletter

The DPP is much more than a new regulatory requirement. It is changing how product information is created, managed, and used across the entire product lifecycle. For companies, this means rethinking data to be more connected, structured, and future-ready. Those who address this now will lay the foundation not only for compliance, but also for more efficient processes and new digital services.

In this newsletter, we take a closer look at current issues and key questions companies are asking, and how to establish a pragmatic starting point.

The Digital Product Passport: What matters now

How well is your company prepared for the Digital Product Passport? For many manufacturers, the DPP will become mandatory in the coming years – making it a concrete topic now. In the future, product, compliance, service, and sustainability information must be structured, machine-readable, and available across the entire supply chain. This means effort, of course – but also the opportunity to finally organize data consistently and use it effectively.

The Digital Product Passport

Companies are facing very practical questions: What exactly does the EU require? Which data is actually needed? And how can all of this be implemented using existing systems without turning it into a massive project?

In our knowledge article, we provide a clear overview, highlight typical data sources and challenges, and outline a pragmatic roadmap for getting started. Read the article

Seminar on the Digital Product Passport

Ulrike Parson and Dr. Ronald Schmeling (Schmeling & Consultants) are currently developing a seminar on this topic, addressing key questions around the introduction of the Digital Product Passport. We will keep you informed.

tekom DPP FocusDay

On June 19, 2026, tekom (tcworld) will host a FocusDay on the Digital Product Passport. The FokusDay is aimed at decision-makers and project leaders who want to strategically anchor the DPP within their organizations and bring together regulatory requirements, data structures, and processes. Where to meet us this spring – industry events with parson

Is May becoming the new peak month for technical communication events? It certainly looks that way: Within just a few days, one event follows the next – and we are right in the middle of it. Between scalable documentation, self-service, and AI-driven content strategies, there is hardly time to catch your breath, but plenty of opportunities for exchange, new ideas, and practical insights. In June, things slow down briefly – but only briefly: the Knowledge Connect Roadshow continues the momentum. Here is where you can meet us:

DOCUFY Summit – May 19, 2026

Growth without additional effort: Scalable documentation in complex product environments

Increasing product variability, skills shortages, and new demands on digital information offerings require new approaches. Together with DOCUFY, we show how documentation can be efficiently scaled – using automation, AI, and modern content architectures. This includes practical examples and opportunities for exchange.

gdslive 2026 – May 20, 2026

Self-service as a strategic success factor

Self-service is more than just reducing workload: when implemented effectively, it impacts customer satisfaction, brand experience, and competitiveness.

gdslive 2026

In her presentation, Ulrike Parson shows how intelligent information becomes a strategic lever – especially in times of skills shortages.

From the parson blog: Why retrospectives matter

Why retrospectives matter

Retrospectives are not an end in themselves: They help teams reflect on processes, improve collaboration, and continuously learn. In our blog, we show how retrospectives can be used effectively – and why they are a key component of modern ways of working. Read more

New mailing on industry events

In addition to this newsletter, we have recently started sending a separate mailing in which we provide more detailed information about current industry events several times a year. You may already have received the first issue.

20 years of parson: Development with perspective

20 years of parson

While new requirements such as the Digital Product Passport are emerging, it is also worth looking back: Technologies evolve, demands increase, new opportunities arise – and with them, the role of technical communication continues to change.

Since our founding in Hamburg in 2006, we have continuously evolved: from traditional software and developer documentation to holistic approaches around content strategies, information architecture, and digital transformation.

What has emerged are not only new services, but also new perspectives: on modular content structures, on structured formats such as DITA and standards such as iiRDS – and on the question of how information must be delivered today to function effectively in complex product environments.

What we are currently working on: Technical communication in transition

We are currently working on various projects that demonstrate how technical communication can evolve strategically – from analyzing existing structures to implementing modular and data-driven approaches. Here is a selection:

Our new partner: neonto

With neonto, we have added a new partner to further expand our expertise in the field of knowledge graphs. Together, we are creating the foundation for connected, context-based information models and new ways of using content. Learn more about our partnerships

How are you dealing with the current changes?

If you would like to further develop your content, processes, or systems, feel free to get in touch. We look forward to the exchange.

We wish you a sunny and inspiring spring.
