Maintaining the XML-based authoring framework
After successfully migrating the developer documentation to DITA XML, parson has taken over the long-term maintenance of the XML authoring frameworks for NXP. Several teams and groups at NXP collaborate, both in Europe and the US. Our services:
Maintenance of scripts for continuous integration and output formats
The DITA-OT frameworks primarily support PDF and WebHelp/HTML output formats, and parson maintains the publication scripts. We also provide support for integrating them into NXP’s continuous integration environment, for example on Jenkins servers or with batch/MAKE files. This allows for the automatic generation of output formats on both Linux and Windows. The frameworks are kept synchronized to ensure that the generated output complies with NXP’s layout requirements.
Continuous maintenance and framework enhancement
Maintenance of the frameworks includes the following:
- Implementing change requests, including those involving XSLT
- Implementing new functions for authors or output formats
- Updating the framework for the company-wide Oxygen XML Editor
- Developing DITA-OT plugins and transformation scenarios for additional output formats
- Developing scripts and XSLT transformations for format conversion and content migration
Improving support for authors
parson is continuously improving the authoring environment to better support authors in editing content. This includes, among other things:
- Enable WYSIWYG settings in the Oxygen XML Editor
- Implement functions that simplify the insertion and updating of standardized text modules and legal texts
- Simplify the assignment of metadata, e.g., in a DITA map
- Support the use of DITA and information management best practices
In addition to maintaining the frameworks, parson supports NXP authors in creating their own DITA documentation. For this purpose, customized DITA training sessions are conducted.
parson also supports NXP teams in setting up the information architecture for their projects and in efficiently using reuse and variant management with DITA mechanisms.
To ensure consistency and quality, parson develops Schematron validation rules that authors can apply to their documentation.
