Metadata model for a new CCMS

Plant manufacturer TROESTER will introduce a new component content management system (CCMS) for its technical documentation. Before data migration, a scalable metadata model was developed to facilitate the management of modularized information in the CCMS and support . Additionally, the model was intended to provide a stable foundation for planned delivery via a semantic . The model is based on iiRDS and PI Class.

parson supported the company throughout this process. We analyzed the requirements for the , developed a suitable metadata model, and prepared recommendations for the authoring team and for expanding the model.

Our services in detail: Requirements analysis and metadata modeling

The project was divided into two phases: requirements analysis and metadata modeling.

Requirements analysis

The parson team reviewed representative documentation content for two selected product lines and product variants. In a workshop, we collaborated with TROESTER experts to define the metadata requirements for content management, variant management, and content delivery. Once all requirements were documented, the next phase began: developing the metadata model.

Developing the metadata model

Based on iiRDS, we modeled the metadata for the product information and information types of the two selected TROESTER machines. During this process, we evaluated the technical feasibility of implementing the metadata model within the CCMS.

A central aspect was mapping the numerous product variants and their components. To better illustrate dependencies, we modeled an in Protégé. From this, we derived customer-specific recommendations for editorial management and content delivery.

The deliverables included a prototype metadata model provided as both a mind map and an file. Additionally, we provided recommendations for the authoring team and for extending the metadata model to other product lines.

To future-proof our documentation for complex plant and mechanical engineering projects, we decided to implement a new component content management system. To ensure a smooth start, parson and TROESTER developed an information architecture in advance. Thanks to parson's competent and positive support, we were able to integrate the iiRDS requirements for the metadata model from the outset.
